art curriculum overview
Lessons are tailored to adhere to: matrix of visual art, national visual arts standards, 21st century skills, guiding principles for the arts, and grade-level curriculum
• Each grade level studies two-three master artists per school year
• The approach will foster self-esteem, critical thinking, self-discipline, and cross-cultural understanding
• Students are encouraged to develop their own individual style through using their imaginations and personal art expression
• Each class will meet twice a month. Grades K- 4th grade for a one hour class period.
• Class time will be divided into: Listening, Learning, and Creating
• New concepts will be introduced and then applied to a special project
• Each student will have an Art Journal where they will brainstorm and keep ideas for projects.
• Reflections on lessons learned from projects will also be entered into the Art Journal
• Each unit will be conducted in two- three sessions allowing for ample quality time for completion
• Special skills learned in Art for Bears are integrated into regular classroom projects, which enrich other curricular areas
• Special projects specific to grade-level are integrated into the art curriculum
